About the Conference
The decision to create an annual Aquinas/Luther Conference was made in the course of considering what sort of events the new Center for Theology might sponsor that could contribute toward healing the split between Catholics and Protestants â events not duplicated elsewhere that would be theologically responsible, academically pace-setting, and serve the mission of the Church.
In the light of such criteria, the idea of comparing the greatest theologian of Catholicism with the greatest theologian of Protestantism emerged as the perfect objective. While there have been several recent studies seeking to look at Luther and Aquinas together on various topics, there is no other annual conference or lectureship devoted specifically to Aquinas/Luther studies.
