Prior to that, from 1990 until 1998, he served as pastor of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Rural Hall, NC. During the ten preceding years he was the pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, NC. Pastor Boger received his B.A. from Lenoir Rhyne College and his M.Div. from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, then in 1979 he interned at Our Shepard Lutheran Church in Peachtree City, GA, where he married his high-school sweetheart the following April.
